(Microsoft) currently dominates the Windows Antivirus market (Windows) , as its free Windows Defender software comes pre-installed and many are satisfied. Now, the company is also expanding for the first time on the competing system, Linux, and has released a first demo version.

The new version of Linux is available for download to the general public, after being in closed trial. It is not yet in its final version, but it is mature enough for users to experiment with it and flood issues or bugs until the final release.

The Windows Defender Linux version is currently optimized for popular distribution versions like Ubuntu, Red Hat Linux, CentOS and Debian. It comes about a year after the company launched the macOS version , which is why it is called Microsoft Defender.

“We know our clients’ work environments are complex and heterogeneous. Providing comprehensive cross-platform protection through a single solution and one more abstract perspective is more important than ever,” the company explains the current steps in a blog post.

But Microsoft does not intend to stop just on PCs, as it plans to launch free versions of antivirus soon for Android and iOS environments as well.
